Job Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Commis 1 Chinese to join our culinary team in Kochi, India. In this entry-level chef position, you will work under the guidance of senior chefs to prepare and cook authentic Chinese cuisine while maintaining the highest standards of food safety and kitchen efficiency. This role offers an excellent opportunity to develop your culinary skills in a fast-paced, collaborative kitchen environment.

  • Prepare and cook Chinese dishes according to established recipes and presentation standards
  • Assist in mise en place (preparation of ingredients) for daily service
  • Operate kitchen equipment safely and maintain proper equipment care
  • Follow food safety and hygiene protocols consistently throughout all kitchen operations
  • Collaborate effectively with kitchen team members to ensure smooth workflow and timely service
  • Maintain a clean and organized workstation and contribute to overall kitchen cleanliness
  • Receive feedback from senior chefs and continuously improve cooking techniques
  • Support inventory management by reporting on ingredient usage and stock levels
  • Assist with basic food costing and portion control measures
  • Adapt to changing kitchen demands and support team members as needed

Qualifications

  • Proficiency in fundamental Chinese cooking techniques and methods
  • Strong knife skills and food preparation abilities
  • Knowledge of Chinese ingredients, flavor profiles, and traditional cooking practices
  • Solid understanding of food safety and hygiene standards
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen environment
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills
  • Ability to follow instructions and work collaboratively within a kitchen brigade
  • Basic proficiency in English communication
  • Experience with wok cooking (preferred)
  • 1-2 years of experience in a professional kitchen environment (preferred)
  • Training or certification in culinary arts (preferred)
  • Familiarity with food costing and portion control (preferred)
