Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and visionary Chief Engineer to lead our engineering operations in Jakarta, Indonesia. In this pivotal role, you will oversee all functions of the Engineering department, ensuring the seamless operation of all building systems, facilities, and infrastructure. You will be responsible for maintaining optimal conditions across electrical, refrigeration, plumbing, heating/cooling, structural, and grounds maintenance operations. The Chief Engineer will drive innovation, efficiency, and excellence while fostering a collaborative and supportive team environment that prioritizes safety, guest satisfaction, and operational excellence.

  • Provide strategic leadership and direction for all engineering department operations, including preventive and reactive maintenance programs across all building systems and facilities
  • Develop, implement, and oversee comprehensive maintenance strategies and capital improvement plans that optimize asset performance and minimize operational downtime
  • Manage and mentor engineering staff, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, professional development, and accountability; conduct performance reviews and identify training needs
  • Oversee the inspection, maintenance, and optimization of all critical building systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, life-safety systems, and central plant operations
  • Direct contractors and vendors, ensuring quality workmanship, adherence to timelines, and cost-effectiveness in all maintenance and capital projects
  • Maintain complete knowledge of all facility features, operational procedures, and building specifications to ensure work orders are scheduled efficiently and strategically
  • Ensure full compliance with OSHA regulations, life-safety codes, and all applicable local and international building standards and requirements
  • Manage energy management systems and implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and reduce utility costs
  • Attend departmental meetings and cross-functional collaborations to provide engineering input and support organizational objectives
  • Establish and maintain departmental standards for safety, image, appearance, and professional conduct; represent the organization professionally to external vendors and stakeholders
  • Develop departmental goals, objectives, and budgets; plan and execute strategic projects that align with organizational priorities
  • Respond decisively to emergency situations and building system failures, ensuring minimal disruption to operations and guest comfort
  • Promote an inclusive, open-door policy that encourages communication, identifies performance issues, and consistently applies organizational standards and procedures
  • Maintain detailed logs and documentation of all maintenance activities, system performance, and departmental operations for analysis and reporting
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned by senior management

Qualifications

**Required Skills and Competencies:**

  • Extensive knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and refrigeration systems
  • Proficiency with building automation systems and advanced computing skills
  • Ability to read, interpret, and analyze blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings
  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic capabilities for complex building systems
  • Demonstrated expertise in preventive maintenance program development and execution
  • Excellent leadership and staff management abilities with proven track record of team development
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Ability to think clearly and make decisive decisions under high-pressure and emergency situations
  • Analytical and detail-oriented approach to problem-solving and operational management
  • Project management and strategic planning capabilities
  • Vendor and contractor relationship management experience
  • Budget management and cost control expertise

**Required Experience:**

  • Minimum of 5+ years of progressive experience in building/facilities engineering or maintenance operations
  • Proven experience directing and managing engineering staff and contractors
  • Demonstrated success managing complex building systems and central plant operations
  • Experience with life-safety systems, compliance inspections, and regulatory requirements
  • Track record of implementing energy management systems and operational improvements
  • Experience developing and executing departmental goals and capital improvement plans

**Required Education and Certifications:**

  • High school diploma or equivalent education (minimum)
  • Professional engineering certification or relevant technical certifications preferred
  • OSHA certification or equivalent safety training preferred
  • Building Automation Systems (BAS) certification or equivalent technical training preferred

**Physical Requirements:**

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
  • Ability to climb, kneel, squat, and bend as required
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds regularly
  • Ability to work in various environmental conditions
