By balancing a refined outlook with the best lifestyle programming, we capture the excitement of being in-the-know -- connecting people to the city, the culture and the moment.

This is an exciting new position within Ennismore’s growing portfolio of lifestyle brands, representing the first Morgans Originals hotel in Egypt.

Job Description

As the Chief Engineer at Portaluna, you’ll be the driving force behind the hotel’s technical operations—both in the critical pre-opening phase and in its day-to-day functionality. From infrastructure and compliance to sustainability and innovation, you’ll ensure everything runs like clockwork behind the scenes, creating a seamless experience for our guests and team.

We’re looking for a hands-on, detail-obsessed leader who’s as comfortable with a blueprint as they are with a wrench. This role blends strategic planning with technical expertise, and is ideal for someone who thrives in dynamic environments and takes pride in world-class workmanship.

What you’ll do...

Pre-Opening Phase

  • Lead the setup and commissioning of all engineering and maintenance systems, infrastructure, and hotel equipment.

  • Collaborate with contractors, consultants, and project managers to ensure all installations meet brand standards and local regulations.

  • Develop a complete preventive maintenance (PM) schedule for all systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, elevators, fire safety, etc.).

  • Ensure all safety, operational, and wayfinding signage is installed and compliant with Ennismore and regulatory guidelines.

  • Recruit, train, and onboard the engineering team on brand-specific standards, safety protocols, and PM procedures.

Operational Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day engineering operations, ensuring all systems function efficiently with minimal guest disruption.

  • Conduct routine inspections and supervise timely repairs of all critical systems (electrical, HVAC, plumbing, elevators, etc.).

  • Implement and monitor energy conservation and sustainability initiatives across the property.

  • Maintain and continuously enhance hotel-wide signage to reflect guest safety, regulatory compliance, and brand aesthetics.

  • Lead, motivate, and develop the engineering team to uphold high standards of performance, safety, and accountability.

  • Ensure full regulatory compliance with building codes, safety policies, environmental laws, and Ennismore standards.

  • Manage departmental budgets, including planning for repairs, parts, tools, vendor contracts, and staffing.

  • Participate in audits, prepare accurate internal and external reports, and ensure departmental alignment with corporate and legal requirements.

  • Support cross-functional teams and collaborate on hotel-wide initiatives, including special events, brand activations, and wellness programs.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the leadership team.

Brand & Culture Contribution

  • Uphold and reflect the Morgans Originals spirit—creative, unconventional, design-forward—in all engineering operations.

  • Champion Ennismore’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and design excellence in everything from lighting to layout.

  • Work cross-departmentally to ensure the technical backbone supports and enhances the guest experience.

Qualifications

What we’re looking for…

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field preferred.

  • Minimum of 5 years in a senior engineering position within luxury or lifestyle hotels—pre-opening experience is a must.

  • Expertise in preventive maintenance, energy management, and regulatory compliance (especially in signage and safety standards).

  • Strong team leadership and coaching abilities, with a hands-on approach.

  • Excellent troubleshooting, communication, and project management skills.

  • Detail-oriented and forward-thinking, with a guest-first mentality.

  • Proficiency in engineering systems, CMMS platforms, and MS Office.

  • Fluent in English; additional languages are a plus.

  • Flexible to work on-call, evenings, weekends, and support emergency situations as needed.

Additional Information

What’s in it for you...

  • Great healthcare, competitive salary, and some nice extra perks across the Ennismore family of brands!
