Located in the heart of Canada's capital next door to the Parliament Buildings, the landmark Fairmont Chateau Laurier hotel in Ottawa is looking to fill a role of Fairmont Barista for Fairmont Boutique / Coffee shop (Full Time).

Fairmont Chateau Laurier new Boutique / Coffee shop will be located on the Lobby ground and will be a special place to display unique personalized goods and gifts to our clientele, while offering all-day light food and coffee service.  Our baristas will lead the effort to exceed expectations, provide exceptional service and display passion for the Fairmont brand.

The ideal candidate brings a positive attitude, is passionate about coffee and has strong people skills. The Barista plays a key role in our dynamic team driven to provide the best in class customer experience. Our baristas will be fully trained by our coffee provider Happy Goat Coffee Company.

Reporting to the Boutique / Coffee shop supervisor, responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:

• Consistently offer professional, friendly and engaging service.
• Be active in the boutique, providing recommendation to guests
• Handles end to end customers’ orders;
• Sells and prepares coffee drinks and beverages by following prescribed recipes and preparation techniques for coffee and/or drinks, such as, expresso, cappuccino, latte, brewed tea, cold brews, etc.;
• Answer customers’ questions, presents and explains the various beverage offerings;
• Maintains inventories by replenishing coffee bean supply; stocking coffee brewing equipment; maintaining supplies, baked goods
• Keeps equipment operating by following instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs.
• Maintains safe and healthy work environment by adhering to the health and safety guidelines;
• Improves quality results by studying, evaluating, and/or proposing re-designed processes and implementing changes;
• Maintaining and improving the appearance of the store and coffee bar;
• Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading coffee, retail trade, and food service publications;
• Enhances coffee shop reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments;
• Experienced and comfortable working under pressure during busy shifts.
• Strong verbal communications and relationship building skills.
• Friendly, outgoing and dedicated to outstanding customer experience.

Job Type: Part-time/Full-time

• 5 to 8 hour shifts
• Hours of operations 6 am to 7 pm.

• Excellent interpersonal and English/French communication skills.
• Must possess a professional presentation.
• Strong problem solving abilities.
• Highly responsible & reliable.
• Retail and Food and beverage experience will be considered an asset.
• High school diploma/equivalent required.

• Frequent standing and walking throughout shift
• Frequent lifting and carrying up to 40 lbs 
• Occasional kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting
• Occasional ascending or descending ladders, stairs and ramp
