Job Description

We are seeking a talented and passionate Pastry Sous Chef to join our culinary team in Cairo, Egypt. As a key member of our pastry department, you will work closely with the Executive Pastry Chef to create exceptional desserts and pastries that delight our guests and elevate our dining experience.

  • Assist the Executive Pastry Chef in managing daily operations of the pastry kitchen
  • Develop and execute innovative dessert menus and specialty items
  • Ensure high-quality standards are maintained for all pastry and baked goods
  • Train, mentor, and supervise junior pastry staff
  • Collaborate with other kitchen departments to ensure smooth service operations
  • Monitor and maintain proper food safety and sanitation practices
  • Assist in inventory management and cost control for the pastry department
  • Participate in menu planning and recipe development
  • Oversee pastry production for special events and catering functions
  • Stay current with industry trends and incorporate new techniques into our offerings

Qualifications

  • Proven experience (3-5 years) in a professional pastry kitchen, with at least 2 years in a leadership role
  • Culinary degree or diploma in Pastry Arts preferred
  • Current Food Safety Certification
  • Expert knowledge of pastry and baking techniques, including chocolate work, sugar work, and cake decorating
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and inspire a team
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities
  • Creative flair for dessert presentation and menu development
  • Proficiency in using various kitchen equipment and tools
  • In-depth understanding of food cost control and inventory management
  • Knowledge of dietary restrictions and allergen management
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both verbal and written
  • Passion for culinary excellence and commitment to continuous learning
  • Flexibility to work varying shifts, including weekends and holidays

Physical Aspects of Position (include but are not limited to): 

  • Constant standing and walking throughout shift.
  • Frequent lifting and carrying up to 30 lbs.
  • Occasional kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting.
  • Occasional ascending or descending ladders, stairs and ramps.
