Job Description

You represent Fairmont Century Plaza with enthusiasm and pride, providing exceptional service and attention for each guest you encounter. You are energetic and confident, and will encourage your teammates to achieve and be positive while being entrusted with the responsibility of ensuring the best possible experience for your guests at all times in a friendly, courteous, helpful, timely and professional manner.

As Seamstress, you will create, repair, and tailor garments, uniforms, and fabrics to meet the highest standards of quality and presentation. You will follow design specifications, tailoring techniques, and maintenance guidelines to ensure every piece is crafted to perfection. Simultaneously, you will maintain compliance with hotel procedures and safety standards in the handling and care of materials.


What you will be doing:

  • Consistently offer professional, friendly and engaging service
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and supervisors
  • Assisting Supervisor in completion of special requests or misc. projects               
  • Complete tasks in a timely manner with minimal supervision.
  • Sign in and out master keys, radios/mobile electronics daily
  • Be familiar with Hotel’s technology and communication platforms, and utilize to ensure hotel operation and guest satisfaction
  • Assist associates with fitting and issuing of uniforms
  • Assist associates with retrieval of uniforms and/or locker bags
  • Sort dirty linen and check pockets for miscellaneous belongings
  • Use of uniform system to pull reports, daily/weekly/monthly
  • Assist associates with uniform repairs/replacement
  • Ensure that conveyor is properly functioning at all times
  • Accurately measure associates using tape measures to ensure proper fit of garments
  • Ensuring that sewing machines and other equipment are in good working order
  • Altering or repairing garments and other articles, which include hemming, mending, lengthening, as well as taking in and letting out seams
  • Fitting garments on associates to determine how the alterations should be done
  • Labeling garments and other articles and recording the alterations required
  • Using irons and pressing machines to erase the creases on garments and other articles
  • Communicate with 3rd party vendor for pick/up and drop off of uniforms and guest’s dry/cleaning
  • Return and properly tag all lost and found articles in the Housekeeping Office
  • Follow all departmental policies and procedures and service standards
  • Report necessary maintenance items
  • Adhere to local and externally relevant health and safety laws and policies
  • Familiarity with Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
  • Familiarity with all public restrooms, offices and meeting spaces within building
  • Follow all safety and sanitation policies
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Your experience and skills include:

  • Ability to follow instruction, work with others and work independently
  • Ability to communicate fluently with our guests and associates
  • Ability to work cohesively with fellow colleagues as part of a team with minimum supervision
  • Previous Customer Service experience an asset
  • Previous Laundry Valet experience an asset
  • Integrity and works well when Supervisors are not present
  • Ability to manage own time efficiently
  • Ability to safely handle heavy equipment and machinery
  • Able to work safely with a variety of cleaning supplies
  • Able to use basic cleaning equipment
  • Able to use equipment found in commercial laundry facilities
  • Knowledge of various fabrics and sewing techniques
  • Good hand-eye coordination
  • Familiarity with Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
  • Highly responsible and reliable
  • Spoken and written English preferred
  • Some spoken and written Spanish is beneficial but not required
