Job Description

Responsible for performing work necessary to maintain the plumbing infrastructure and fixtures to Fairmont Engineering Department standards. The role includes carrying out daily preventative maintenance tasks, emergency and planned troubleshooting and repairs, as well as new installations and retrofits throughout the hotel property as directed by the Director of Engineering or designated Engineering Managers.

Responsibilities

  • Execute work as assigned in a preventative maintenance (PM) program to ensure plumbing systems and equipment are routinely inspected, repaired as required, and maintained in good working order and condition.
  • Troubleshoot and carry out repairs to building plumbing systems related to water, steam, and sewage systems and associated equipment.
  • Implement temporary safe solutions where necessary to minimize the impact of work on hotel guests.
  • Oversee plumbing work carried out in the hotel to ensure all work is completed in accordance with Royal York Hotel standards and meets the Building Code of Ontario.
  • Respond to guest requests from our CMMS platform to carry out plumbing repairs and maintenance in guest rooms and public areas including, but not limited to, unplugging toilets, bathtubs, and sinks, and clearing A/C unit drains.
  • Maintain an adequate stock of plumbing fitting supplies and parts.
  • General repair and maintenance of kitchen equipment.
  • Assist with renovation and remodeling projects including preparation of materials lists and scope for projects.
  • Ensure supplies are stored and organized so inventories can be maintained and tools and materials are kept at minimum operating levels to support ongoing work.
  • Attend all required training courses, workshops, seminars or schooling to remain current on mechanical technology related to the position, including certification on tools and equipment (e.g., lifts) where required.
  • May be required to work weekends, holidays and shift work as scheduled by the Director of Engineering.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

What You Need to Succeed

  • Current certified Plumber under the Apprenticeship and Tradesmen Qualification Act or equivalent experience
  • One (1) year experience in a similar role
  • Working knowledge and ability to repair mechanical system within the hotel
  • WHMIS and OHSA knowledge
  • Excellent guest service skills and ability to communicate effectively in English

Physical Aspects of Position (included but not limited to)

  • Constant standing and walking throughout shift
  • Frequent lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs
  • Constant kneeling, pushing, pulling and lifting
  • Frequent ascending or descending ladders, stairs and ramps
