Job Description

$75,000.00- $85,000.00 annually, based on previous experience and education.

At the Rimrock, safety and security are more than operational responsibilities, they are a promise to our guests, colleagues, and community. As Director of Safety & Security, you will lead all aspects of security, emergency response, loss prevention, fire safety, and first aid programs, ensuring every guest and team member experiences a safe, welcoming, and secure environment. This is a role for a strategic leader who thrives in fast-paced, high-standard environments and can combine technical expertise with strong operational oversight.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead and manage the Security Department, including recruitment, training, scheduling, payroll, and performance management.
  • Inspire and develop a high-performing security team focused on safety, prevention, and exceptional guest service.
  • Conduct ongoing coaching, training, and performance evaluations to ensure team excellence and growth.

Operational Oversight & Risk Management

  • Oversee day-to-day security operations, including incident reporting, guest or staff escorts, cash transfers, and lost & found protocols.
  • Develop, implement, and enforce SOPs for handling emergencies, intoxicated guests, theft, and other critical situations.
  • Manage hotel emergency response plans, including fire, first aid, wildlife encounters, and business continuity.
  • Act as liaison with external emergency services, including fire departments, police, and Parks Canada wardens.
  • Ensure all security systems, key card access, and locks (VING system) are maintained and functional.

Safety, Fire, and First Aid Programs

  • Oversee and coordinate first aid programs, emergency drills, and staff training exercises.
  • Maintain compliance with Alberta and federal safety regulations, including HACCP and fire protection systems.
  • Chair the Rimrock Health & Safety Committee, guiding all hotel leaders on security and safety protocols.

Financial & Administrative Management

  • Develop and maintain the Security Department budget, including purchasing emergency and operational equipment.
  • Liaise with controllers, insurers, and guests to manage incident follow-up and potential claims.
  • Maintain accurate records, inventories, and reports to ensure transparency and accountability.

Guest Experience & Culture

  • Ensure every guest interaction reflects professionalism, courtesy, and a sense of safety.
  • Lead by example to cultivate a culture of vigilance, responsiveness, and trust across the property.
  • Identify risks proactively and implement solutions to prevent incidents before they occur.

Qualifications

What You Bring

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in security, with at least 2 years in a senior leadership role.
  • Clear criminal record and valid Alberta Security Services License.
  • Current certificates in Standard First Aid with CPR “C”, AED, and Oxygen administration.
  • Valid Alberta driver’s license with clean abstract.
  • Strong analytical and technical skills, including knowledge of emergency response, fire alarm systems, and business continuity planning.
  • Experience leading teams in high-pressure, fast-paced environments with a focus on guest service and safety.
  • Calm, confident, and professional demeanor, capable of resolving conflict and managing critical incidents.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.

Bonus if You Bring

  • Experience in luxury hotel or resort environments.
  • Proven ability to implement advanced safety, loss prevention, and emergency programs.
  • Knowledge of wildlife management and property-specific safety initiatives.
  • Experience managing budgets and security technology systems.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and experience liaising with government or emergency agencies.
  • Track record of mentoring and developing high-performing security teams.

Physical Demands

  • Continuous standing and walking for long periods.
  • Frequent bending, reaching, and climbing stairs.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 22 lbs / 10 kg frequently and up to 50 lbs / 23 kg occasionally.
  • Ability to respond quickly to emergencies in a variety of conditions, including outdoor and inclement weather.
  • Ability to work shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays as required.

Visa Requirements: Must be legally eligible to work in Canada. The hotel is unable to assist candidates in obtaining Canadian work authorization.
