Job Description

PURPOSE OF POSITION

The Director of Landscape is responsible for the overall design, maintenance, enhancement, and sustainability of all landscaped and natural areas across Raffles Seychelles. The role oversees the full horticultural vision of the resort, ensuring world-class tropical aesthetics, environmental responsibility, guest appeal, and operational efficiency.

KEY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Strategic & Operational Leadership
  • Develop and implement a master landscape strategy aligned with Raffles’ luxury standards and Seychelles’ environmental regulations.
  • Lead daily operations of the Landscape Department including manpower planning, training, and performance management.
  • Monitor planned and unplanned maintenance programs for all landscaped areas, roadways, buggy paths, hardscape etc.
  • Supervise all landscape activities including planting, pruning, turf care, irrigation, pest control, nursery management, and natural-area conservation.
  • Oversee restoration and upkeep of endemic species and eco-sensitive zones within the property.
  1. Horticulture & Aesthetic Excellence
  • Maintain signature garden areas (spa gardens, villa surroundings, common walkways, beachfront garden belts) where applicable.
  • Ensure all landscaping contributes to guest experience — photogenic, tidy, vibrant, and reflective of Creole tropical identity.
  • Develop seasonal planting programs and botanical enhancement plans where necessary.
  1. Sustainability & Environmental Stewardship
  • Implement sustainable landscape practices: composting programs, organic fertilization, endemic plant propagation, and water-efficient irrigation.
  • Work closely with the Director of Engineering on environmental initiatives (zero-chemical drives, biodiversity improvements, sand/beach erosion controls).
  • Ensure compliance with Seychelles environmental laws and protected species guidelines.
  1. Asset & Resource Management
  • Manage and maintain all landscaping equipment, tools, irrigation systems, and machinery.
  • Prepare annual OPEX/CAPEX budgets for landscape operations and upgrades.
  • Oversee vendor contracts, proposals, and service performance.
  1. Safety, Risk & Compliance
  • Ensure all staff follow safe work procedures, PPE compliance, and hazard reporting.
  • Conduct regular inspections of pathways, slopes, trees, and public areas to prevent injury risks.
  • Coordinate with Engineering for emergency response (storm preparation, fallen trees, erosion, etc.).
  1. Guest Interaction & Service Quality
  • Support guest engagement when required — tree planting request, special occasions, villa garden requests.
  • Ensure outdoor spaces remain calm, clean, and guest-friendly at all times.
  • Collaborate with Housekeeping, Rooms, F&B, and Spa to enhance outdoor aesthetics around key venues.

PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES

  • Creative eye for detail and luxury aesthetics
  • Strong leadership and people development
  • Environmental awareness and sustainability mindset
  • Problem solving and rapid response capability
  • High standards, discipline, and ownership mentality
  • Excellent coordination with Engineering & Operations teams
  • Ability to work independently with good interpersonal skills
  • A creative, practical and pro-active approach to problem solving

    Qualifications

    QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

    • Post-Secondary graduate in Horticulture or equivalent
