Job Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented and efficient Commis Chef specializing in Japanese cuisine to join our culinary team in Chennai, India. As a Commis Chef, you will play a crucial role in supporting our kitchen operations and contributing to the preparation of authentic Japanese dishes.

  • Assist in the preparation and cooking of various Japanese dishes under the guidance of senior chefs
  • Maintain a clean and organized workstation, adhering to food safety and hygiene standards
  • Properly handle and store ingredients, ensuring freshness and quality
  • Collaborate with kitchen staff to ensure timely food preparation and service
  • Learn and apply Japanese cooking techniques and presentation skills
  • Assist in inventory management and stock rotation
  • Participate in menu development and recipe standardization
  • Operate and maintain kitchen equipment safely and efficiently
  • Adapt to a fast-paced kitchen environment and manage time effectively

Qualifications

  • Culinary diploma or equivalent qualification in culinary arts
  • Food safety certification
  • Strong knowledge of Japanese cuisine, ingredients, and cooking techniques
  • Excellent knife skills and proficiency in basic kitchen equipment operation
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills
  • Physical stamina to stand for extended periods and lift heavy items
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays
  • Prior kitchen experience in Japanese cuisine is preferred but not required
  • Passion for Japanese culinary arts and willingness to learn and grow in the role
