Chief Engineer – Mercure Oradea (Opening Spring 2026)

Be part of the opening leadership team of Mercure Oradea, a new contemporary midscale hotel featuring 90 rooms, four conference halls, a spa & wellness center, restaurant, and café.

As Chief Engineer, you will be responsible for the efficient operation and maintenance of all building systems — ensuring safety, functionality, and comfort across guest rooms and public areas. You will lead the Engineering team, manage preventive maintenance programs, and ensure full compliance with Accor standards, local regulations, and sustainability initiatives.

You will play a key role in the pre-opening phase, preparing technical systems, documentation, and operational readiness for the hotel’s successful launch.

What’s in it for you:

  • Be part of the pre-opening team, establishing all engineering and maintenance procedures

  • Employee benefit card offering discounted rates at Accor hotels worldwide

  • Learning and development programs through Accor Academies

  • Career growth opportunities within Accor’s international network

  • Contribute to Accor’s sustainability goals through energy efficiency and Planet 21 initiatives

You will be responsible for:

Engineering & Maintenance Operations

  • Oversee the maintenance and operation of all mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP), HVAC, and building systems

  • Ensure uninterrupted functioning of critical infrastructure including elevators, fire safety, and water systems

  • Implement preventive maintenance schedules to minimize downtime and maximize guest comfort

  • Monitor and maintain energy consumption, water usage, and utility efficiency

  • Supervise daily repair and maintenance requests across all hotel departments

Team Leadership & Safety Compliance

  • Recruit, train, and supervise the Engineering team and external contractors

  • Conduct regular inspections and ensure compliance with all safety, fire, and health regulations

  • Implement and update emergency and fire safety procedures in coordination with management

  • Maintain up-to-date technical logs, maintenance records, and statutory certificates

Pre-Opening Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with project teams, consultants, and contractors to ensure technical systems meet brand standards

  • Participate in snagging, testing, and commissioning of building systems before handover

  • Establish preventive maintenance procedures and SOPs for all technical areas

  • Prepare equipment inventories, maintenance schedules, and supplier contracts

  • Support the setup of energy management systems and maintenance software

Budgeting & Administration

  • Prepare annual engineering budgets, CapEx, and maintenance forecasts

  • Monitor expenses and ensure cost-effective procurement of technical materials and services

  • Liaise with suppliers and service partners for technical contracts and compliance

  • Ensure adherence to Accor’s sustainability and environmental reporting standards

Qualifications

  • University or technical degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or Facilities Management)

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in hotel engineering or building maintenance, including supervisory or managerial roles

  • Strong knowledge of MEP systems, fire safety standards, and local building regulations

  • Experience in pre-opening or renovation projects is a strong advantage

  • Proven leadership, planning, and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to manage budgets and technical documentation

  • Hands-on, organized, and safety-conscious mindset

  • Fluent in Romanian and English; additional languages are an asset

You will live the brand by:

  • Ensuring the safety, comfort, and well-being of all guests and team members

  • Leading by example with professionalism, precision, and reliability

  • Promoting sustainability and energy efficiency as part of daily operations

  • Acting as a guardian of quality and technical excellence within the hotel
