    Job Description

    Summary of Responsibilities:

    Reporting to the Director, Finance & Business Support responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

    • Assist the Director, Finance and Business Support in ensuring that accounting staff understand and follow applicable policies and procedures outlined in the hotel Finance & Accounting Policies and Procedures Manual.
    • Oversee day-to-day operations of accounting department to ensure smooth, effective and efficient daily work practices.
    • Work under the guidance of director, of Finance and Business to support and develop departmental performance of staff through training and performance feedback
    • Develop key relationships with respective department Heads and senior managers to provide financial support and understanding of short and long term financial plans.
    • Assist in reviewing financial performance of department/area, analysis of variances, forecasts and budgets. Challenge existing strategies and recommend alternate strategies
    • Supervise, conduct and prepare month-end account reconciliations, account analysis and closing procedures.
    • Prepare and post journal entries, ensuring efficient completion of all month-end functions.
    • Maintain system of accounts and controls, providing accurate data necessary for all required accounting reports and statements.
    • Verify the accuracy of all Income Audit transactions and ensure daily revenue and rebate summary is reconciled.
    • Co-ordinate and ensure that all daily management reports are issued on a timely and accurate basis.
    • Administer financial component of concession leases, ensuring accurate monthly and annual reporting and reconciliation of all rents due to hotel operations and corporate office.
    • Lead the Internal Audit committee and support Director of Finance in ensuring all divisions exceed the corporate & regional audit score targets.
    • Assist with and help with Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable and Cashier.
    • Assist in ensuring all balance sheet accounts are reconciled on a monthly basis
    • Assist in the preparation of financial operating statements and reports in accordance with Finance and Accounting Policy and Procedure.
    • Assist in the creation of the Annual Operating Budget and Strategic Plan.
    • Assist in the creation of the Monthly Rolling Operating Forecast.
    • Assist in the effective utilization and integration of hotel and accounting technology systems, including software applications, current and future.
    • Act as a Trust Officer for the hotel.
    • Represent the accounting office and the Director of Finance in their absence.
    • Actively contribute to hotel overall leadership and direction.

    Qualifications

    • Professional designation (CPA, CHAE) or acceptable university degree with an appropriate specialization in accounting or enrolled in a recognized accounting program with progression to 4th or 5th level.
    • Minimum of 8 years of accounting experience, including at least 3 years in a managerial role with comparable scope and responsibilities.
    • Experience in hospitality accounting, particularly within luxury hotels, will be considered an asset.
    • Proven leadership and coaching skills with a track record of developing a highly motivated and cross-trained group of progressive accounting professionals.
    • Familiarity with hotel operating systems and financial application software, including One Stream, Sun infor cloud, Opera Property Manager, Micros, Silverware, Birchstreet Purchasing System, Cora, Dayforce, SAP Concur.
    • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Word.
    • Excellent administrative, interpersonal, organizational, written and verbal communication skills.
