Commis II supports the culinary operations of Arts Cafe by assisting in food preparation, cooking, and maintaining kitchen cleanliness. As a Commis II, the individual plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth and efficient functioning of the kitchen. They work under the guidance of senior chefs and are responsible for executing basic cooking techniques, preparing ingredients, and assisting in the creation of dishes. The position provides an opportunity for aspiring chefs to gain hands-on experience, develop their culinary skills, and learn from experienced professionals. The Commis II contributes to the overall culinary excellence of the hotel by demonstrating a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and a passion for delivering high-quality cuisine
- Education: A high school diploma or equivalent qualification is generally required. Completing a culinary program or obtaining a certificate in culinary arts is advantageous.
- Culinary Knowledge: Basic knowledge of culinary techniques, food preparation methods, and kitchen equipment. Familiarity with different cooking styles and cuisines, especially those relevant to garde-manger area.
- Experience: Previous experience in a professional kitchen, even at a lower level, is preferred but not always mandatory. Entry-level positions, such as kitchen apprenticeships or internships, can provide valuable experience for aspiring Commis II.
- Skills: Strong knife skills, proficiency in basic cooking techniques, and the ability to follow recipes accurately are important. Attention to detail, time management, and the ability to work efficiently under pressure are desirable.
- Hygiene and Safety: A solid understanding of food safety and hygiene practices. Knowledge of proper food handling, sanitation procedures, and cleanliness standards is essential to maintain a safe working environment and prevent foodborne illnesses.
- Physical Stamina: The role of a Commis II requires physical stamina and the ability to stand for extended periods, lift heavy objects, and perform repetitive tasks. Good physical fitness is beneficial to meet the demands of the job.
- Teamwork and Communication: Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team are important. The Commis II must be able to take directions from senior chefs, interact professionally with colleagues, and contribute to a positive and supportive work environment.
