Job Description

As the Legal & Taxation Manager within the finance department, you will be responsible for overseeing all legal and taxation matters related to the Fairmont Mumbai. You will work closely with the finance team to ensure compliance with legal and tax regulations, minimize risks, and optimize the hotel's financial performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Legal Compliance: Ensure compliance with all relevant laws and regulations governing financial operations, including taxation laws, corporate governance requirements, and industry-specific regulations.
  • Tax Planning and Strategy: Develop and implement tax-efficient strategies to minimize the hotel's tax liabilities while ensuring compliance with all applicable tax laws, including income tax, GST, TDS, and other indirect taxes.
  • Contract Review and Negotiation: Review, draft, and negotiate contracts and agreements related to financial transactions, including vendor contracts, service agreements, lease agreements, and financing agreements, to protect the hotel's interests and mitigate legal risks.
  • Risk Management: Identify legal and regulatory risks associated with financial operations and develop strategies to mitigate those risks effectively, including insurance coverage, compliance programs, and internal controls.
  • Dispute Resolution: Manage legal disputes and litigation matters related to financial transactions, in coordination with external legal counsel as necessary, to protect the hotel's interests and minimize financial losses.
  • Policy Development: Develop and implement internal policies and procedures related to financial operations, including tax compliance procedures, contract management protocols, and risk management frameworks, to ensure consistency and compliance across all departments.
  • Training and Education: Conduct training sessions and workshops to educate finance staff on legal and taxation matters, promote a culture of compliance and ethical conduct, and enhance the team's understanding of legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Stakeholder Management: Build and maintain effective relationships with external stakeholders, including government authorities, regulatory agencies, external auditors, and legal counsel, to represent the hotel's interests and ensure smooth business operations.


  • Bachelor's degree in Law, Finance, Accounting, or related field; Master's degree or professional certification (e.g., CA, CPA) preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in legal and taxation roles within the finance or hospitality industry, with a focus on financial transactions and tax planning.
  • Strong knowledge of Indian legal and taxation laws and regulations, with specific expertise in financial and tax matters.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and analytical skills, with the ability to communicate complex legal and financial concepts effectively.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
