Duties & Responsibilities:
1st) Learning
- Knowing the product
- Discovering the market
- Study the competition
- Consultation – local convention bureaus, local hotel and other associations, government tourist office, airlines, travel agents, tour operators.
- Determination and maintenance of a workable budget and recommendation for most productive allocation of funds; direct mail, advertising, sales trips, entertaining, etc..
- Sales forecasting.
2nd) Doing
- Increasing the average expenditure per guest.
- Increasing double occupancy
- Increasing average room rate.
- Increasing business volume during off-season periods.
- Sales promotion: Both Rooms & F&B; promoting FIT; convention and tour groups business; Sales meeting; banquets; cocktail receptions; etc.
Specific: Director of Sales & Marketing will:
- Set up appropriate filing systems of existing and potential accounts, keeping up to date and properly categorized.
- Research the market on a continuing basis .. to determine where business comes from, how it is influenced, who the hotel clients are, how they normally arrive in the locations, etc..
- Establish, maintain and use his library of reference materials, periodicals, texts and sales leads: stay abreast of market trends and hotel selling techniques.
- Develop annual marketing plan and plan-week to – week sales activities.
- Prepare annual sales goals: develop working plans to carry out goals; compare actual achievements against goals; periodically take necessary corrective action.
- Go on sales trip to promote and solicit business for the hotels.
- Maintain within the community and in neighboring marketing areas, contacts with airlines, travel agents, commercial houses, private clubs, professional associations, etc.. to procure new business and repeat business for hotels.
- Review recommendations to the operations director for local and international advertising campaigns: media, selection, timing, copy, etc suggest expenditures for direct mail programs, special promotions, estimate costs of anticipated sales departmental expenses.
- Direct, supervise and administer all personnel within the sales department.
- Submit monthly and weekly sales plans and market analysis ( Monthly) as well as daily sales/activity reports which will also include persons entertained for sales purposes.
- The DOS&M will submit monthly sales activity report to the Operations Director to include all new business booked during that month.
- A monthly sales meeting will be held to include the unit General Managers.
- Perform duties common to all supervisors and other duties as may be assigned.
- The DOS&M is administratively and functionally responsible to the Operations Director.

Relevant sales experience is an asset
Ability to focus attention on guest needs, remaining calm and courteous at all times
Highly responsible & reliable
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal required
Strong interpersonal and problem solving abilities
