Job Description

Assistant Director of Engineering

What you will be doing:

Reporting to the Chief Engineer, responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:

  • Consistently offer professional, friendly and engaging service
  • Assist in the day to day management of the Engineering department and ensure all standards are followed
  • Act as the hotel’s designated chief engineer and ensure the building is adequately supervised and appropriately staffed
  • Coordinate preventive maintenance program for guest rooms, public areas and safety systems with a focus to improve efficiency, profitability and service levels
  • Ensure hotel complies with all government regulations pertaining to building code requirements, health, fire and life safety programs
  • Understand and own all Heart of House systems including electrical, power, internet, and technology
  • Monitor, update and implement the fire safety plan, building evacuation and disaster recovery plan
  • Ensure prompt and immediate response to maintenance requests for guests and Colleagues
  • Oversee ongoing maintenance, repair and preventative maintenance for the Hotel with a focus to improve efficiency, profitability and service levels
  • Follow the annual maintenance budget
  • Assist in the monitoring of energy and water management programs
  • Recruit, schedule, conduct performance reviews, train and develop engineering Colleagues
  • Lead the Planet 21 Committee by hosting monthly meetings and sharing knowledge of brand’s sustainability policies & procedures (i.e. waste, charitable giving, etc.)
  • Balance operational, administrative and Colleague needs
  • Act as a role model for our Accor values and Heartist culture
  • Follow departmental policies and procedures
  • Follow all safety policies
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Your experience and skills include:

  • 4th Class Power Engineer certificate required
  • Minimum 2-3 years’ leadership experience in a similar role required
  • Highly organized, results-oriented, able to make decisions and empower employees to ensure they exceed guest expectations
  • Computer literate in Microsoft Window applications required
  • Engineering degree/diploma or related discipline preferred
  • Proven ability to supervise multiple complex projects with a focus on results
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Strong interpersonal and problem solving abilities
  • Highly responsible & reliable with exceptional attention to detail
  • Ability to work cohesively as part of a team
  • Ability to focus attention on guest needs, remaining calm and courteous at all times
  • Ability to work flexible schedule, including weekends, overnights, and holidays, as hours of work and days off will vary according to business needs

Your team and working environment:

  • Constant standing and walking throughout shift
  • Frequent lifting and carrying up to 30 lbs
  • Frequent kneeling, pushing, pulling, bending
  • Occasional ascending or descending ladders, stairs and ramps

Must be legally eligible to work in Canada. The hotel is unable to assist candidates in obtaining Canadian work authorization.
