Director of Engineering

Mondrian Gold Coast is opening the doors late 2024 and we are looking for pioneers to launch the brand in Austrialia.

DIRECTOR OF ENGINEERING

Reporting to the General Manager, the role holder will contribute to the performance of their area by facilitating the hiring and retention of exceptional talent as well as guest satisfaction and team member satisfaction and creating a safe and functioning hotel. 

What You’ll Do

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• You will manage the Engineering department, ensuring the efficient running of the all hotel facilities, including all fire and life safety equipment and systems.
• It will be your responsibility to plan and manage all preventative maintenance work, new projects, extensions, and renovations.
• You will be involved in preparing the Engineering budget for the property, and will provide the Engineering knowledge for the hotel strategic and operational plans.
• You will monitor energy usage in the hotel, and implement initiatives to conserve energy wherever possible.
• Provide leadership and guidance to the engineering teams across multiple properties.
• Develop and implement maintenance programs to ensure the reliability and safety of all systems and equipment.
• Conduct regular inspections to identify and address any issues related to building infrastructure, mechanical systems, and facilities.
• Coordinate with vendors and contractors for repairs, upgrades, and renovations as needed.
• Manage the budget for engineering operations and ensure cost-effective solutions are implemented.
• Ensure compliance with local regulations and safety standards.
• Oversee the training and development of engineering staff to maintain high performance levels.

HEALTH AND SAFETY

• Follow and ensure that all team members follow all safety procedures and practices, lead by example.
• Ensure all departments adhere to all safety practices.
• Assist in the development and adherence of all departmental emergency procedures.
• Ensure team members have a complete understanding of and adhere to the spa's policy relating to safety.

What We’re Looking For

• Ideally a Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in a senior engineering role within the hospitality industry.
• Strong technical knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
• Proven leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage teams effectively.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Familiarity with local regulations and building codes.
• Ideally pre-opening experience
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
